Partners: Union for the Emancipation for Indigenous Women (UEFA)
Stakeholders: Implemented in the provinces of South Kivu and North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the project aims to reach 1,500 Indigenous and local community women, including their grassroots associations.
Through this project, the Union for the Emancipation of Indigenous Women (UEFA) aims to strengthen the land and resource rights of Indigenous and local community women in South and North Kivu provinces, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. UEFA does this by helping women engage in the management of local community forest concessions (CFCLs) and take on leadership roles. UEFA aims to pilot a model of securing 10,000 hectares of forest, to be managed mainly by Indigenous and local community women. It will also facilitate women’s participation in managing 720,000 hectares of forest, secured by Tenure Facility partners Strong Roots, Réseau CREF, and the Integrated Programme for the Development of the Pygmy People in close collaboration with communities and local authorities. It will also document and share lessons learned about Indigenous and local women’s forest rights and their inclusion in CFCLs management with government and other technical partners. Overall, the project will benefit at least 1,500 women.
