About 75 participants from nine countries participated in the 5th Tenure Facility learning exchange 4-6 October 2018 in Hyderabad, India. This exchange was groundbreaking in many ways. It was cohosted by the Tenure Facility and RRI project leaders—as well as the India School of Business. It was highly interactive in structure, and included a ‘marketplace’ for sharing innovations across countries.
Major themes emerging from the discussions included: the business case for supporting community land rights; the role academic institutions can play in supporting the struggle for secure rights; the importance of securing recognition of women’s land rights on the ground; and the crucial role secure tenure plays in preventing conflict and preserving peace.
A distillation of key findings organizes the rich discussions around three questions:
1) What are we learning from and about implementing the projects
2) What are we learning from and about the Tenure Facility as a new international financial mechanism?
3) What do we want to learn more about?
