About the Organisation

The Tenure Facility Fund is a unique international funding mechanism dedicated to securing land and forest rights for Indigenous Peoples and local communities in the developing world. It provides grants and technical assistance to help implement tenure reform policies, test new rights-based approaches, and support community-government collaboration. Through grantmaking, assistance, and donor education, the Tenure Facility Fund advances practical, rights-based solutions that contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, gender equality, poverty reduction, and conflict resolution.

The Tenure Facility Fund is the US-based non-profit arm of Tenure Facility, registered in Sweden. It is also the fiscal sponsor of Turning Tides, an international grant facility dedicated to supporting the tenure and rights of local communities, small-scale fishers and fish workers, and Indigenous Peoples.

 

About the Position

The Grants Administrator is responsible for providing administrative support for the process of grantmaking to civil society organisations in the regions where the Tenure Facility Fund and Turning Tides works.  The position provides support for grantees during the application, implementation, and reporting phases of a grant and conducts and documents due diligence to ensure compliance with applicable chartable funding laws and regulations. The Grant Administrator works closely with Tenure Facility Fund and Turning Tides finance, administrative, and program staff as well as grantee organisations to ensure timely and accessible grant processing and data collection.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Process grantee applications and conduct due diligence with respect to legal requirements on charitable purpose and foreign asset controls.
  • Draft grant agreements and expenditure responsibility agreements.
  • Answer grantee questions with regard to grantmaking process, requirements, and timelines.
  • Support grantees with documentation needed to comply with regulations on receiving foreign funding.
  • Assist with the collection and processing of grantee reports and other related materials.
  • Support Tenure Facility Fund and Turning Tides teams on the development, use, and maintenance of the grant database.
  • Support Tenure Facility Fund and Turning Tides staff in retrieving information and reports from the grant database.
  • Maintain up-to-date information and processes to ensure compliance with US and foreign regulations on funding civil society.

 

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree or professional degree in administration or finance or equivalent years of professional administrative experience.

 

Experience:
  • At least three years in a professional administrative or grantmaking role with a bachelor’s or professional degree or at least seven years of experience without a degree.
  • Experience working in an international funder, civil society organisation, or agency preferred.
  • Prior experience working with international grants and grantmaking preferred.

 

Skills:
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent intercultural communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent English communication skills – written and oral.
  • Fluency in English and at least one other language (preferred: Spanish, French, Bahasa Indonesian, or Portuguese).
  • Ability to think and problem-solve creatively.
  • Proficiency with databases or project management software. Experience with NGO Online a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a remote team across different time zones and to be responsive with requests and timelines.
  • Understanding and commitment to human rights and environmental issues, grassroots organisations, and Indigenous Peoples.
  • Knowledgeable about and commitment to the mission of The Tenure Facility Fund.

 

Employment Terms and Compensation:

This is a fully-remote, 50% time, contract position expected to average 80 hours per month.

Travel will not be required.

Potential option to increase hours in the future.

 

Compensation:

Compensation will be determined based on competitive market rates in the contractor’s country of residence.
