Tenure Facility will take part in the United Nations climate change conference known as COP28 to support indigenous delegates as well as amplify the message of how secure tenure for indigenous communities helps fight climate change and create a more viable future.
To maximise our impact at COP28, Tenure Facility is partnering with other organisations that are active in land rights as well as supporting indigenous-led groups attending the summit.
Our aim is to make sure support for indigenous communities is at the core of the discussions. Leaders have acknowledged the outsized role these communities have in protecting the planet but sadly many still fall short of their firm commitments.
In the lead-up to COP28, we also cohosted a webinar to examine whether funds pledged at previous summits have indeed filtered down to where they are most needed – communities.The discussion looked at how this year’s conference could move the needle forward on climate financing by making it more inclusive and responsive to community-led funding mechanisms.
