Unlocking Climate Finance for Indigenous Land Rights : Challenging the Narrative

This session will bring together Indigenous leaders, regional organizations, donors, and multilateral funders for a strategic dialogue on practical solutions to the barriers preventing climate finance from reaching Indigenous-led organizations. The discussion will focus on two key questions: why climate finance is still not reaching Indigenous organizations effectively, and what models are working to close that gap.

Speakers will highlight structural barriers, including centralized fund structures and complex eligibility processes, alongside solutions such as Indigenous-led funds, regional intermediaries, and small grants mechanisms. The session will also explore when direct funding is possible versus when intermediaries are needed, and how preparation funding and multi-year grants can help Indigenous organizations strengthen systems and manage resources over time.

This important conversation will take place during New York Climate Week 2025. It will occur in person, and a recording will be shared shortly after the event concludes.
