Communications and Outreach Officer

The Tenure Facility seeks a Communications and Outreach Officer to support implementation of the Facility’s communication strategy which underpins its efforts to support Indigenous Peoples and local communities in their efforts to secure their land and forest tenure. He/she will support day-to-day communications and outreach efforts. The position requires an individual who thinks creatively about longer-term communications initiatives and ways to develop the Tenure Facility’s brand among its partners, online, and within the international human rights and development community.

The International Land and Forest Tenure Facility is the first and only international, multi-stakeholder organisation exclusively focused on securing land and forest rights for Indigenous Peoples and local communities. It provides grants to implement tenure rights under existing law and policy, supports the implementation of projects in countries across the world and shares the knowledge, innovations and tools that emerge. Launched in 2014 by the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI), the Tenure Facility is dedicated to scaling up recognition of collective land and forest rights globally. This helps reduce conflict and further the achievement of global human rights, environment, and development goals. The Tenure Facility is an international foundation registered in Sweden.

Who are you?
You are a creative, dynamic, curious and talented communicator with a problem-solving and flexible attitude. You have exceptional cultural awareness, political sensitivity, and strong people skills. You are comfortable working in an open office environment and have the discipline and drive to work from home and remotely, when required. You will be based in Stockholm and occasionally travel to meet our field partners.

Specific duties and responsibilities

1. Create or collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to create content for internal and external audiences, including:

  • Maintaining and regularly updating content on the Tenure Facility’s website
  • Implementing the Tenure Facility ‘s social media strategy, including regularly updating the Tenure Facility’s Facebook, Twitter, and other accounts
  • Maintaining a blog of the Tenure Facility’s content from staff and partners that showcases the Tenure Facility’s work and expertise
  • Developing timely material to promote the Tenure Facility activities for distribution on social media, website, newsletters, and other vehicles and channels
  • Creating, collecting, and/or editing photographic and video content
  • Providing research, analysis, drafts, and other supports for thought leadership pieces (such as journal articles, op-eds, white papers) produced by Tenure Facility leaders

2. Update, and maintain a consistent visual brand for:

  • The Tenure Facility’s corporate website and other special projects
  • Project deliverables, reports, and other products
  • Communications materials targeted at specific audiences
  • Graphics, charts, visualizations, and other specific design products or needs

3. Contribute to the Tenure Facility ‘s online presence and support partners’ awareness campaigns that are timed and synchronized according to particular events or activities

4. Track the Tenure Facility ‘s online presence, including media mentions of the Tenure Facility programs and activities and web and social media analytics

5. Support the Tenure Facility learning and other events

6. Travel to project sites to gather content and provide communications support and training

7. Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or journalism. Other degrees are also welcome if the working experience is relevant to communications. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience supporting communications and/or public relations
  • High-level knowledge and experience developing social media strategies and managing social media tools
  • Track record of on-time and high-quality delivery of communications initiatives
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to effectively translate technical content for specific, non-technical audiences
  • Strong visual design experience, including creating or contributing to print and web products
  • Keen aptitude for determining and internalizing organisational goals and using them to be a proactive member of the Tenure Facility team
  • Experience with graphic design and editing programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Front-end web design or web development skills, including use of HTML/CSS and JavaScript
  • Proficiency in English is essential, knowledge of French and/or Spanish is a plus
